Peeking down the little alleyways when floating through Florence is what Carin and I found ourselves doing when on the search for, of all things, a steamer for our crinkled and not-so-chic-looking outfits. The Christmas cheer was still lingering throughout this romantic city, with fairy lights and red ribbons draping above its cute little streets and lamp-posts adorned with pots of cheer. It made me nostalgic for the time I had just spent with my friends and family over the Christmas break yet I warmly welcomed the new sensations I was feeling, knowing I was surrounded by so many Italians who seem to exude an invisible and contagious energy and enthusiasm for fashion, beauty and life.

When it’s cold I’ve always been drawn to wearing odd lengths and oversized coats during the day, which is why I already know this outfit may not be for everyone. An outfit that kind of looks like it’s swallowed me whole is weirdly satisfying in my books.

You’ll recall seeing this look in this post but paired with my patent Christian Louboutin Heels. Styled here with my Miu Miu Brogues, it’s a little perspective into what I look like when I’m running (yes literally running as there is never enough taxis) around cities for meetings or shoots. Interesting how much a pair of heels and a touch of dark lipstick can completely transform your look for the evening. But in this instance I think, for once, that I actually prefer it styled with flats.

What on earth is happening to me? Am I actually embracing my height for once?

A quick check-in after spending the last few days in Shanghai and Hong Kong, and then home again in a blink of an eye. Luke and I flew to Shanghai to work on a shoot with Lane Crawford, as well as attend the grand opening of their new luxury department store in Times Square. Although our stay was brief, it was a little reminder of how much I enjoy visiting Asia and how little time I’ve spent there in the past few years. The adorable Asian stationary and stickers alone is a good enough reason to book flights back to Japan!

I spotted this Victoria Beckham dress when I was quickly running around the store styling a few looks for the shoot. I adore a classic two piece suit, yet this modern take on such a timeless neccassity like a tuxedo suit immedietely caught my eye and made it impossible to ignore. After attending Victoria Beckham’s show at NYFW last season, I was familiar with how flattering her pieces are to a woman’s body but perhaps not appropriate for every body shape. After trying on this boxy but sharp silhouette, it was all rapidly downhill from there as I quickly started justifying how many seasons and ocassions this one particular piece would last me. And so, my first Victoria Beckham investment piece was welcomed to my wardrobe. Now here’s to hoping I’m smart enough to keep a good distance away from her bags…

During my time in Paris, Carin and I shot a few series of photos that were more stylized than my normal outfit posts. We both share a love for creating short stories with a romantic mood to our photos, whether that be through details as simple as a facial expression, softness in the hands, post-editing, or the time of day we shoot to create an appropriate ambience. This is why I just adore shooting with Carin. She’s the closest photographer I’ve found to have such a similar eye to Luke’s in terms of framing and seeing beyond the obvious photo opportunities in one location, yet still brings her own unique perspective, incredible and modest talents, and pure passion for photography every time we shoot together. Plus I quickly learnt she’s just as crazy open-minded as Luke and I are when it comes to doing absolutely anything to get that one shot. At one point we were questioning how I could climb underneath the Pont Alexandre III (a bridge that crosses over the Seine River in Paris) to get this particular photo. A photo that would have been amazing but perhaps illegal.

This post was dedicated to the faux Parisian life I’m imagining I’m living in a parallel universe, where I can speak fluent French and eat as many glazed eclairs as I want. A life where I sit on the corners of cafes and gaze out of windows, keeping cosy with a hot pot of green tea and dreaming about said eclairs, more eclairs, and other non-relavant to every day life but extremely delicious things that I can Instagram about which cause people to question if I, in fact, eat all of the things I Instagram about. Oh god, even Instagram rules my ideal world. There’s no hope for me after all.

Even though there are so many fond memories from fashion month it’s the simple ones that I appreciate the most. The no frills and no fuss situations where I find myself in flats in a silky and comfortable shirt with some sort of sweets involved. It doesn’t hurt if the Eiffel Tower is involved or an odd warmth for a not so typical day back in Paris.

I realised lately that you rarely see me in my day-to-day outfits anymore or in other words, flats. I rarely shoot in flats because I’m quite short, although many of you believe I’m six feet tall. I seem to have grown a complex about this for this exact reason. When I have met any of you in real life one of the most common comments I get are “You’re a lot shorter in real life”. I’m normal height, and oddly enough I just don’t shoot very well in flats, but perhaps this is my complex kicking in again here?

I don’t do casual very well either. I don’t own blue jeans or a white tee and I don’t do sneakers. Instead I have always worn brogues, loafers or Hugh Hefner-inspired slippers to fill that gap in my wardrobe. Ever since I discarded this pair of white brogues (not only were they dying but I had a few of you actually telling me to stop wearing them and buy new shoes…) I haven’t been able to find a pair I have loved as much. Come a quick visit to Miu Miu back in July and I’m absolutely obsessed once again with this new and improved version. It only took me three years to find a replacement, but in my eyes it was well worth the wait!
